Behind the Vision: Katy, SEO Support Specialist
We know a lot of companies say this, but here at Brighter Vision we think our customers are the greatest. Since the Brighter Vision process is designed to be so customized and personal to you and your vision, we get to know our customers pretty darn well – so we figured it’s only fair we return the favor!
Introducing Behind the Vision, where you can get to know a Brighter Vision employee a little better and get an inside peek at the team helping you grow your practice.
This month, I got the chance to catch up with Katy Hill, our SEO Support Specialist. Katy is the queen of SEO around these parts. Any time anyone needs help with an advanced question about search engine optimization (SEO), Katy is our first and last stop. 🙂 We couldn’t be prouder to have her adding her magic SEO touch to all Brighter Vision websites.
Please share a couple facts about the career journey that brought you to Brighter Vision.
It’s funny, actually. When I was younger, rather than being a traditional high school student I attended a focus program called Arts & Humanities. It was fantastic because it offered a unique integration of graduation requirements along with focused learning classes which made learning much more appealing. When I graduated and began thinking about what I wanted to go to college for, my parents instantly suggested graphic design because of my love for the arts and the continual rise of technology. But, being that it was my parents idea and not my own, I was convinced that it wasn’t the right career path for me and was determined to find something better on my own.
I got my first taste of web design while working for a wedding venue in Houston where the most technical aspect of my position was supposed to be programming the LED scrolling displays with the right names for the events we were hosting each evening. Nevertheless, I had an amazing boss – you know, one of the “push you to your limits” types – who saw something in me and decided to start teaching me all about websites and search engine optimization. I was immediately hooked!
After relocating a few years later for my husband’s job, I chose to go back to school and graduated from Bellevue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Web Technologies in June of 2017.
Shortly thereafter, my husband’s job moved us yet again. This time to Denver where I found Brighter Vision and have been doing what I love ever since!
How long have you been working at Brighter Vision?
Since Labor Day last year, so just about 11 months now.
What’s your role here at Brighter Vision? / How do you spend your day?
I’m the SEO Specialist for our Support Team. Basically, I’m here to help our clients with live websites get as much traffic from Google as possible. My average day consists of reviewing and analyzing our clients’ websites for areas that can be improved in order to ensure they’re “Google friendly,” using the most up-to-date techniques to tell Google what a webpage is all about.
But I do still occasionally take on a regular ol’ support task here and there. So don’t be surprised if you hear back from me that your edit request has been completed. 🙂
Can you tell us about one of your favorite / most memorable Brighter Vision clients?
This is a hard one for me because working in Support, I get to work with so many clients on a daily basis! But if I had to choose only one it would have to be Heidi McBain. Heidi reached out to us a few months ago for help with her website’s SEO because she was going to be transitioning from providing local services at her private practice to providing online video counseling throughout the entire state of Texas. Every suggestion that I threw her way she took on wholeheartedly, and her combination of initiative and energy got her the thriving online practice she was after in just a few short months.

What’s one of your favorite Brighter Vision websites right now?
This is another toughie as it is not uncommon for me to see upwards of 30-40 sites a day! But right now, one of my favorite Brighter Vision websites is Affinity Counseling Group. I really think that this is a great example of how to truly tailor every aspect of your website to your ideal client. From her “calm-yet-confident” color scheme, to the amount of custom content she’s provided in each of her specialty service pages, to all of the unique design touches she chose – you just can tell that she put a lot of thought into every single part of her website.

What are your hopes for Brighter Vision in the future?
We already offer so much in terms of a well-rounded website service that I just hope we can continue to build on that with the same trajectory. What started out just a few years ago as a web design business has quickly become an all-inclusive turnkey web solution for therapists. By helping our clients achieve maximum results with minimal time commitment, we’re allowing them to focus their efforts where they’re needed most – on their own clients! So the more tools we can provide to help with that, the better.
If you could give Brighter Vision therapists one tip about how to best use their Brighter Vision website and marketing tools, what would it be?
Every single one of our clients is bound to learn something from our latest online course – The SEO Playbook. This course is all about what you can do on your end to help support the SEO we’ve already written for you! It takes you through everything in a step-by-step manner that makes it easy to follow and even provides you with “action steps” at the end of every major section!

If you could suggest one of our blog posts to read TODAY, which would it be?
Specialty Pages: How To Write Pages That Convert For Your Practice is definitely one of my top recommended posts from our blog. While Google has a lot of factors – over 200 actually! – that contribute to how it ranks your site, it thrives on one thing above all others: fresh, unique content.
So if you want Google to recommend your website to online searchers, you’re going to need to give them a good reason! By writing as much detailed content as possible about every single one of the specialty services you offer, you’re essentially saying, “Hey Google, look at how much information I have on [topic]. You should recommend my website when people search for [topic] because I’ll give them the right answers to their questions.”
This blog post does a really great job of explaining all of this in further detail while still using simple terms (as opposed to “tech talk”) to get the major points across!
If Brighter Vision had a mascot, what would it be?
This is really going to show my age but my first thought is something along the lines of Clippy – the old paperclip with googly eyes that would randomly appear to offer assistance with Microsoft Office programs.
While not doing it in quite the same way, everyone on our team does have a Clippy-like tendency of their own. We’re here to help when you need it and when we see something that we know could be better, we’re not simply going to keep it to ourselves. We’re going to say something and then offer suggestions on how to move forward!
Aw, I think he’s kinda cute
I’d take help from him! 🙂
Thanks so much to Katy for spending the time with us today and telling us what she loves about being a part of the Brighter Vision family and her own vision for the future.
